    Smile Cost of furnishing apartment

    Hi Everyone,

We're busily looking around for an apartment to lease and are trying to get a feel for how much it would cost us to furnish.

We already have beds, a TV cabinet and buffet unit. Everything else will have to be bought.

The apartments we are considering are all 3 br, so we need to furnish dining area/lounge (except for the TV cabinet mentioned already), 2 bedrooms (with the exception of beds .. ) and set up a home office.

As we'll be very long term tenants here, we don't want to get all our stuff from Ikea, but nor do we have the budget to buy all top of the line, designer furniture. Just nice, solid, durable 'family friendly' style furniture would suit our needs.

We would also need to pay for curtains as these seem to be left to the tenant to purchase. Much different from our home country.

Any thoughts you have will be appreciated!

    Cheers,
    AsiaMiles

A fair amount of our furniture is from Shambala in Horizon Plaza. They have diff stuff on sale every week so you'd need to make several trips.

We also have a fair bit of furniture made to order from Macau.

Also might want to take a look at 2ndchance.com.hk and the classifieds in here for used stuff that is in good condition.

Couple of places I found to be of quite good price/quality ratio are G.O.D. and stores in the HomeSquare complex in Shatin (same place as the NT Ikea).

Curtains are something you can try to negotiate with the landlord. Also some nice light fittings. They are usually things you can ask the LL to do before signing the lease, especially if the LL is not budging much on the price.
