    Is this a Good offer?

    Hello Folks,
I know this topic has been discussed many times, but if you can give me more insight into the current offer that I have received, would help me immensely.
I'm a 26 year old single guy from India working in IT sector. I have 5 years of experience.
My current salary in India is around HK$ 136K/Annum.
Now, this is what I have been offered,
    - HKD 20,000 Per Month.(240K/Annum)
    - Accomodation provided by company.
    - 20 Days annual Leave.
    - 2 round trips back home.
Would you please give your valuable input on same,is this good enough package? Is this what a guy of my exp. would get in HK? Is there any scope I can negotiate, if yes on which factor I should stress more.
    Please suggest.
    Gaurav

    Hi nivant,
    Thanks for the information.
More about me, I'm currently working in Mumbai,India.
From future prospectwise yes, this move will definately going to help me.
Looking at your reply, it seems although 20K is good enough for guy of my experience, there is still some scope of negotiations with respect to my current indian salary and surely I will be talking about it.
moreover, is this what a guy of 5 yrs IT exp in normally gets paid in HK,what would be the saving potential if one leads the normal life (i have the housing provided by company)...

    Please suggest.

5 years experience in what area? Say setting up windows xp home edition? Or say maintaining a cluster of 500 servers?

$20K + housing is decent for 5 years experience ... I'm assuming this is a coding / support role and not project management.

If you have project management and or specialist experience, you're underpaid (which is often the case for the first year or so if you're being body shopped... and until you prove yourself indispensible to the client / local ops).

Thanks both for giving me much needed insight.
And sorry for not being specific about my current expertise.
I'm working in a ERP field as Techno Functional consultant, ERP name is MBS- Navision, working in same for last 5 years.
    That's about my current experience.
What you both,Nivant and Kia, think about the package now,is it ok?underpaid?descent?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks for the inputs.

    Dude

really depends on your experience in terms of technology. If you are a hard core developer b/grnd with Java, C# etc and strong server side as well as GUI developer is not that difficult to get 400k per annum or more even with 5 years experience.

I have never heard of the ERP system you mention so can't comment much here.

Your package seems to include housing which takes away the most expensive living element.

    Unhappy Not impressed

    Hi Gaurav,

Sorry to say. But i am not impressed with the offer you have mentioned. 20+ without housing seems to be less to me with your expereince in ERP. I know it is difficult to find the people who have continuosly 5 years of experience in ERP.

Your salary is same as what Indian IT companies pays to their employees when they send them to onsite.

Also, There is no vertical growth and visibilty in Hong Kong as in US and Eurpoe in term of career growth.

The salary package doesnt seems to be attractive. But if you are getting higher role and responsibilty, then you can evaluate this offer.

Anyways, Congrats for the offer. Hope to get a drink if you come to HK

    Ciao

Make sure to ask what accommodation is on offer, will you be sharing with other company employees in a crammed apartment or will you have your own place?

I had just over 5 years when I came here and I wouldn't have accepted an offer like yours. I've seen it with Indian guys in Tokyo too, when their company sends them abroad as consultants they try to get them on the cheap, if you were from Europe or the states they'd offer more I'm sure but that's the way it seems to be at the moment.

    I'd ask for more

right. 20+ without housing expenses. This is still not good. and 20+ with housing expenses is worst that can happen to you.

    Agree with fromIndia.

Not a good offer. Bcoz 136k+ in india is better than 240k in hk.
