    Health insurance in HK

    Hi,

i am german and plan to move to HK.
Do you have any recommendations for a private health insurance with unlimited time frame/new health check after few years?

If i stay over 7 years in HK, i become permanent resident, right? Do i have the right to use the public hospital etc. free of charge?

    Thanks !

Wish you a happy and successfull new year 2007!

    Cheers,
    Martin

As an ordinary resident on a visa you have access to the public hospital system for "free" (there are nominal charges).

We tend to recommend William Russell ( www.william-russell.com ) to our new expat members, as they're both, our insurance provider and an advertiser here.

Do i have this access also with an investor visa?
Where can i get closer informations about the public hospital system (which health sectors do belong to it (dentist?) ) and the nominal charges?

I contact them and wait for their reply.

    Have a nice day!

For things like dentists and routine care, you'd be better of using the private system, as the waits in the govt hospital are usually 30+ days.

    Check the HA Website here.

(Yes, anyone who is legally in Hong Kong on an employment, investment, student visa .. etc ... is considered a resident.

Normal illness you can easily visit your local GP, would only cost u between 15 and 25 euro including prescription. For dential treatment u definitely should go private. come to big things when u need to go to hospital, i would rather use private health insurance - quicker, althought publiic health service is available to all resident
