    Any Accountants

    Hi Guys,

I was born in HK and finished my Marketing and Accounting degrees in Australia.

I'm currnetly working in South Australia (State Government) as a Licensing Officer - "Golden Bowl" (however, not realated to what I studied). We have a good working environment here, e.g. holiday and superannunication, etc, however, my only concern is the job that I'm doing now is totally unrelated to my degree (I'm doing my CPA). I know that if I continue to work here, my future will be limited and I will not be able to finish my CPA (I must work in a accounting related role to become a fully qualified CPA).

I'm now thinking to go back to HK and work as a Audit Trainee, however the risk that I have to take is, i must give up my current job (I'm now earning about HK$22000 per month, if I continue to work here, my future's earning will be about HK$28000 per month max for my life in today standard). If I go back to HK, what it means to me is, my income will be much less than now, but with more opportunities. Or, I should stick with the government job and working in here forever.

Can someone, especially accountants advise me, I want to know what can I expect as a Auditor/Accountant in HK and should I come back?

    Thank you so much.

Lai its a tough choice to make but you need to look at your longer term career goals too and where you see yourself in say 5 years.

Yes of course you're going to need to take a risk to further your career etc and I do have to say that the big 4 here in hk for example are not the most competitive of payers out there.

You may even need to take a pay cut to what you are currently on if you want to come out here, Oh and why do you want to come back to hk? Can you continue your studies and work for say a big 4 in australia? then when you're fully qualified try hk?

There are a few accountants on here and I'm sure they will be along sooner or later.

    Hi Jimbo,

    I appreciate with your response.

Actually, I did try to look for a Audit Trainee position here in Australia. However, it is very difficult to get one here while the employers only want to employ someone who have got the experience already. Further, working as a Audit Trainee in Australia does not earn a lot of money, probably only about HK$13000 per month (of course we can earn after we've got the experience)compares to about HK$10000 in HK. However, I will need to pay for some essential expenses, eg. rent and car. Therefore, I just cannot see any benefit by working in here. I also understand that it is very difficult to go any further in a foreign country while our languages and cultures are different (unless you are extremely smart). I think the main point in here is, where will I get a better future (Aust or HK) and whether I should take the risk of going back to HK.

    Can you pls advise me.

Obviously I can't advise you on where your future lies as only yourself can make that decision.

Its a question of weighing up the pro's and the cons of staying in Australia or trying to make it in HK.

How long will it take you till you're fully CPA qualified?
