    Shipping personal stuff from UK

I'm want to ship personal goods to HK from the UK, mainly stuff like clothes and books and odd bits of furniture.

Whats the best way to do it? I'd prefer a door to door service rather than me having to hire a van to pick it up from a port.

    Thanks.

http://www.sevenseasworldwide.com have given an excellent service for me and others I know. Door-to-door; SMSs confirming dropoff time for boxes and subsequent pickup; everything happened when they said it would.

Do they accept small volume? I have only 5 to 6 cartons to ship. I wanted to go through the HK Post, but they do not offer pick up service.

It depends what you mean by "carton". Sevenseas is designed for people who don't have large items of furniture to move - in other words people who are just moving clothes, books, etc in a few boxes. Have a look at their website: it tells you all about their standard size boxes, and it can generate a quotation for you automatically.

You can use couriers who offer an air-freight service but word of advice - don't use DHL. They have an archaic payment system, they managed to give me incorrect ETAs on several occasions and the HK office rang twice to tell me they had no idea where my belongings were (they couldn't even say which continent). Eventually my boxes arrived 10 days late.
I am still communicating with them as I had to pay up-front and am trying to get some money back. It's taken them 3 weeks so far to tell me they still don't know exactly what happened.
Sorry not a cheery message but hope it's helpful.

I just called them. They accept quite large carton size actually. They even accept my carpet which is 1.20 m width.

I used Allied Pickfords and was very happy with their service. However, in hindsight I would not have bothered to ship anything and would have just bought everything out here.

Allied Pickfords are more geared towards house removals so PDLM's suggestion might be better in your case. Just ask for a door to door quote rather CFR Hong Kong if you contact Allied.

I go back to the UK every 3 month and now just bring clothes and small personal effects in my luggage if I need them. Black jeans from Tesco are unbeatable value!
