Advice on working in Kwun Tong (while living on HK Island)

Hi I'm moving to HK in a May. My job is based in Kwun Tong and was wondering if anybody has advice about whether the commute will be difficult. My specific concerns are:
    1. Whether it will take very long to get to and back from Kwun Tong for work if I choose to live on HK Island
    2. How I could minimise transit time
    3. Easiest mode of transport to Kwun Tong if I live in Sheung Wan, Midlevels or Wanchai

    Thanks in advance!!

I commuted between Kowloon Bay/Kwun Tong and Discovery Bay for 9 years...
    1. If you use the MTR it'll take you about 30min each way (not including your commute to the next MTR station near you). If you use the bus (641, 619) it'll take about 45min each way (again, not including your commute to the bus stop)
    2. Use the MTR
    3. Again - the MTR is your best bet

The buses are likely to get stuck in traffic - specially those that use the central harbour crossing, but you have a lot better chance of getting a seat than on the MTR.
Seriously, don't even think of signing a lease on a flat here until you've seen the options available.

Our office is in Kwun Tong near the MTR station and I can walk to the Sheung Wan MTR and be in the office in 50 minutes depending how hot it is outside. And if you live near Queen's and Possession Street or around Hollywood and the Central Escalator the $2 fare discount on the MTR makes it the same as the bus.

The bus from Macau Ferry Terminal is horribly stuck in Central traffic in the morning and then seemed to go crazy by Fortress Hill where'd he be gunning it to make up time while I was rolling around up top trying to read the paper.

If you work in Kwun Tong and choose to live on the island you are nuts IMO, seems like a bloody good excuse to live in Sai Kung to me..

If we continue on the Sydney - HK comparison, then Sai Kung is probably the nearest you could get to Avalon - except there are whole other villages, rather than individual houses, that are hidden in among all the greenery.

The buses I listed use the Eastern Harbour Tunnel (all 6xx buses do). The 641 operates during rush hour only and is the quickest option outside the MTR.

It beats me why anyone would commute from the island to Kwun Tong! You can live much closer to work saving time AND save money on accommodation if you live on the other side - and with options like Sai Kung you can have a great lifestyle to boot! If you want to have a night out on Friday/Saturday night then it's only the cost of a taxi. MUCH cheaper to save the money on accomodation and spend it on a taxi a couple of times a week.

I've commuted from the Mid-levels to my workplace in Kwun Tong for 3 months, and it was not convenient. It would take me about an hour to get there, including the walk to the bus stop and clamoring with the suit-and-tie crowds to get on the bus. So, I moved to Kowloon side, closer to work, but was really bored when I was done with work, with nothing but brightly lit malls and dead industrial buildings greeting me on my way home.

I think that Sai Kung would be a great option if you're looking for a peaceful and quiet lively place to live at, and commute daily to East Kowloon. Alternately, North point is fantastic as there's a ferry going directly to Kwun Tong from there, and it's close enough to all the fun stuff on Hong Kong side, too. But yes, I do think yo should come here first and see a place for yourself. It can take ages to find a place that suits your tastes!
