    Networking in Hong Kong??

    Hello,

I am moving to Hong Kong in August due to my husband's job. I just finished my MBA with concentration in pharmaceutical management and marketing from Rutgers Business School in New Jersey. I have nine years of marketing experience in the pharmaceutical industry in Korea and worked for Pfizer and GlaxoSmithKline. I am also a registered pharmacist in the US. I am seeking for a job opportunity in the pharmaceutical or medical device industry. My husband is a permanent resident, so I hope I won't have a problem with my visa.

Here are my questions that I really need your help.

    1. What are the good places to network with people in the pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device industry?
    2. I don't speak Cantonese. Would it be a big problem to find a job?
    3. What are the good job websites or recruiting agencies to look for the opportunities in the health care industry?
    4. Where should I start with my job search?

Thanks very much for your help and advice in advance.

    JJ

Not speaking Canto will be a problem if you are not at a senior level. As you know, for marketing you need to talk with suppliers, media, agencies and customers and though many customers speak some english many don't also. Though the majority of business is English you may be lucky.

I would start with former colleagues to see if they can refer you to people in GSK etc or other opportunities in HK.

Get your LinkedIn page up and running and strong as you can get it. Get others to provide recommendations on Linkedin, that can be powerful. JobsDB is a pretty good recruitment website.

    Good luck.

Use your old contacts to get meetings here in HK as Virago suggests. Attend networking events like Oriented.com (not sure of the industry reps there though) but nothing will out perform direct contact with the companies here you used to work for and with.

Thank you so much for your advice, football16 , Virago.
I will start with my former colleagues as you advised.
