Buy phone in HK or US

I will be arriving in Hong Kong in about 2 weeks. Would it be better to purchase a phone in the US or in HK? Are the same brands of phones more expensive in HK?

depends on what phone

try this site, enter the model number on the top centre part of the page ( indication of prices and where to buy them, sadly in chinese only) but should tell how much cheaper compared to list price places such as fortress and boardway

If you buy it in the US, make sure that it's unlocked.... There are plenty of places here to buy them with and without a contract!

I have a contract here in the US for my cell phone and a free upgrade, which would allow me to get the Iphone 4 or Samsung Galaxy 2 for only 50 US dollars.

Since I plan to move to HK soon, would you recommend I just use my upgrade and get one of the above 2 phones here in the US, unlock it, and then bring it over and get service from a provider in HK?

Or would it be better to buy a smart phone in HK and then get service there?

I have read through threads giving advice for both routes, but I don't think I would be able to beat the deal of only $ 50 U.S. for a good phone. The only complication is unlocking it here in the states before bringing it over to HK.
