Uncertainty on Move to HK from SGP

    Hi all,

I came across this website in my desperation to make up my mind about moving from Singapore to HK. It's natural to feel uncertain about changes, and for me its alot of risk - I am in my 30s, single, giving up a long-term relationship and good job, to look for a job in HK.

So any advice and tips for the following will greatly help!

    1) What is the cheapest rental and recommendation

    2) Making friends with locals/Singaporeans in HK

    3) Social activities in HK

    regards,
    simple life

    1. I believe you can rent a bed in a "cage" within a room for a few HK hundred dollars a month.

    2. There are threads in this forum specific to Singaporeans(e.g. http://www.geoexpat.com/forum/there-...ngs-t8931.html )

    3. Also see threads here. It helps if you like a drink.

    Hi PDLM,

    On point #1:-
What can I say as a newcomer to geo expat but "ouch, pain ah!" That was my first post here.

    On point #2:-
This is a helpful tip, so thanks:-)

    On point #3:-
As a typical Singaporean in 25-30 age range, I definitely like drinks and party. Will look ard for any gatherings.

Any other advice from fellow singaporeans who hv made the decision to move to hk (and understand the feeling), I wud really appreciate your inputs!

    regards,
    simple life

It's hard to say, I made the move with a job. I wasn't really growing or was happy with my last job and when the opportunity came, I took it and moved. Sorry mate, I'm passed the partying and drinking stage. I do meet with people for dinner and drinks and make the odd appearance at LKF whenever. Have to say, it's a nice place to live. I like it but am not sure how long will I actually stay here.

And welcome to geoexpat...and ignore PDLM....PDLM - People Don't Like Me.

Good move, I say, although I am probably a bit impartial I moved here about 8 months ago from Australia and really enjoy it (long work hours notwithstanding). It is very easy to meet new people. I am amazed to think of all the friends I have made since coming over, one of whom is a good Singaporean friend.

But giving up a long-term relationship to come over seems a bit harsh - I assume that can't be the only reason for it!
