Do you know what I am sorry I asked!

Yes, Ok, I do live in a bubble, apologies for my upbringing, going to good schools and working hard for my money!. However some people just seam to be on here all the time ripping people for questions they ask, if new people didnt join and ask questions, even if they have been asked before, then how could the site continue? Then it would just be 10-20 people bitching at each other!

Also housing is huge in HK (4K a month say) in London 12k before tax to live in central is nothing really as after tax housing and travel you dont have as much as you think left!

Anyway thanks to those who responded sensibly, i wont post any more questions, and probably others wont meaning the others can have the site to themselves.

What? 12k minus tax and NI only and you can save 8k?? the net on that salary in london is 7261 minus housing car insurance ect, ok its alot but when you have no idea of Hong Kong, and you read its one of the most expensive cities in the world then you can see why I asked no?

It's nothing to do with you being a newbie, these questions are asked all the time and it's rare someone gets a rough deal unless they ask something silly. Had you supplied a few simple details about your expectations (you didn't even say where your office would be) you might have had a different response, like the other people who post questions having already done a little homework themselves.

People are not questioning your upbringing merely your intelligence for asking if HKD 150,000 a month salary is enough to live on. Clearly you must be divorced from reality if you wonder whether you can survive on a salary that 99.9% of the people living in Hong Kong do not earn but yet still somehow miraculously manage to survive, have accommodation and eat everyday.

You can have a nice lifestyle here on a household income of 50k (no kids, 2 adults), but it all really depends on your spending habits. If you prefer models and bottles at the Tazmanian on a frequent basis then yes your ability to live comfortable may suffer.

I hope my answer has been helpful, although I think this whole topic has been a nice troll.

Thanks, appreciate it. I do have another question. Looking through this site I understand my Fiancee cannot work until we are married... However can she even come and live with me and not work, problem is a tourist visa (EU non UK) is only 90 days!

If you have a wedding date set, you can apply for something called an extended visitor visa for your fiancée. If will allow her to live here but not work. They are usually granted for 6 months and renewable for another 6 (but actual terms depend on individual circumstances). If your fiancée is finds employment that will qualify her for a work visa she can also apply for a work visa for herself after arriving on a visitor visa.

Even without an extended visitor visa it she will very likely be able to do several visa runs to Macau before raising any eyebrows, especially if you travel with her. There are occasional horror stories about people being given a few days to pack up and leave HK upon getting caught on a visa run, but these are rare (you can read about some of the examples on here).

Rare or not, to be clear, this is illegal.
Depending on the passport and the ethnicity of the fiancee, this may be relatively safe or it may be playing with fire.
Best bet : Get married ASAP and you wont have any hassles.
