And do tell, how many cases were reported/found in Hong Kong *AFTER* the orginal problem and subsequent implementation of new checks?
Based on your assertion(govt is doing nothing to stop it), we should be dropping like flies.
    Is it :
    a) very few/none
    b) lots of people got sick but govt covered it up
    c) lots of people died but govt covered it up
for extra points, find some credible reports instead of sensationalist articles.

    I see.
How could you possibly see; you seem to be demonstrating blindness. Did you actually read the report?
Hong Kong emissions are down, China emissions are up.

You read the report and claim that because overall things are up 5% and 10%, we are worse off. While the report says "While Hong Kong’s total air pollutant emissions are put into shadow in the regional context, it is important to note that not all the pollutants emitted from across the border will contribute to Hong Kong’s air pollution levels." I characterize that as "Alright and getting better"

Can we get back to food again?

melamine poisoning aside; there's a donald duck story in which uncle scrooge gets a gift goat from some himalayan maharaja. the goat would eat only wild strawberries grown on the south side of its home mountains. hauling them to duckburg got expensive over time. but a healthy goat was a precondition for doing business with the maharaja so scrooge simply had to pony up.

now, i wonder if there's a moral in this story regarding importing US organic veggies grown in the California sun.. not quite sure what it would be

This is true, but such information would have no value in general and would simply cause sheep-like behaviour amongst the masses.

Where a problem is detected that has the potential to be widespread and immediately threatening then the government does issue test-by-test reports. They did this in the case of the melamine tainted products. For example, for the tests run on 30 September 2008, here are the unsatisfactory tested products: http://www.cfs.gov.hk/tc_chi/press/f....9.2008%29.pdf

China executed some folks for adding plastic to milk already and it's still a whack-a-mole recurring problem.
