And the MTR is SUCH fun with a stroller. Enjoy.

To the OP - if you are from the UK, then imagine Oxford St in London during the sales. Then make the pavements narrower and the people less watchful of where they are going. Then go walking around with your stroller is like that. It's like that ALL the time, pretty much anywhere in Central, Admiralty, Wan Chai and many other places in HK Island. Also anywhere else there are many shops. However, in places like GC, Park Island, Discovery Bay, there are generally less people, more space and more other mothers with strollers. That's really all we are saying, in a nutshell. Plus those places are easier for your husband to get to work. Nowhere in HK is actually far from shops, supermarkets, cinemas or other conveniences. It's more about the general atmosphere of your basic surroundings.

it's not 3 mn from the GC residence to the supermarket and it's not fun nor cinvenient to walk in Central with a toddler.

Much easier than buses. Yes, I have done both - unlike you. It's hilarious you persist with this myth that GC is more accessible and more convenient than PP when there IS NOTHING THERE. Yes, you can walk around with your stroller all day long. If you want to actually go anywhere, you get ON A BUS. These are the bald facts.

With PP, you have far more options - you can walk (as you can in GC, except there is actually somewhere to walk TO), you can jump on the MTR or you can catch a bus if that's really your cup of tea. Strollers are fine on the MTR by the way.

It's fine, have you ever tried it? I do it three times a week at lunchtime (the busiest time) and don't have any problems. Pick your route carefully and you can use the overhead walkways, lifts (escalators at a pinch) and it works just fine.

No it's not fine to walk in Central with a toddler.

Whatever route you take. It's hot, there is traffic, there are people, it's polluted.

Yes I do it regularly with 3 kids (aged 1.5/2.5 and 6) and it's not easy.

Same the GC supermaket is NOT 3mn from the residence.

Stop agruing guys, you look stupid.

why are you angry 'the brit'? this thread is about helping someone make an informed choice, and not about justifying your decision to live on the island.

Everywhere in Hong Kong is hot and polluted Mat. Most places with anything in them are crowded too.

The overhead walkways between Hong Kong station and Central station are much wider than the pavements, and very stroller friendly. No traffic up there either. At either end these disappear into air conditioned shopping centres which are again very stroller friendly. Everywhere has lifts or escalators. No idea why you find it so difficult! If you hate it so much, why do you do it regularly?

I don't live on the island. I'm just correcting some of the lies being told by others who don't live on the island, and don't have any idea what they are talking about.

When TheBrit was coming to HK, he asked where to live and I suggested GC as one option. He came here for a month, missed the residents bus a couple of times (apparently it left "early" - something I have never experienced in five years!), got pissed off with the place and has since moved to (I think) near Kowloon station. For some reason his single month in GC has been seared into his memory as a living hell (probably because the first month anywhere is hard and he happened to be here) and has never forgiven me for suggesting it.

    In a nutshell.

On the other hand, others who have come to GC following various suggestions have sent me personal emails thanking me for the suggestion and love living here. At the end of the day, the point is that folks HAVE to come and LOOK FOR THEMSELVES before deciding where to live. We are all different and like different things but blaming others for your own lack of due diligence is pretty pathetic.
