Yep just pm me Or if anyone else fancies it we can have a tuen Mun night out. I know nothing about any night life there but my wife has told me there is not much to do drinking wise but then she hangs out in HK side for night life.
She says gold coast starts to close around 23:00.
I am sure other will know better.
If they are asking if there is any English speaking community, then I guess not.
No, never been - straight into the deep end eh!
But yeah, that'd be good, get to see a bit of the place that way too. I'll get in touch when I'm over there, August 16th.
I'm a guy - got no choice anyway, I'm teaching there
Booth, if you haven't yet read up on stages of culture shock (or culture stress, depending on which authors you read), I'd suggest you do so. At the 6 months-1 year point in a new culture it would be ABnormal not to want to move, preferably back to wherever "home" was.
Of course, if OP chooses to live somewhere like Siu Hong, this will probably hit harder than it would in Midlevels, but if they live somewhere like Gold Coast & environs (or maybe the increasingly "expatted" nicer estates around Lingnan U) - with more open space and "neighbourliness" - the 2nd phase of culture shock could arguably be less than living in a shoebox on the island ... that would depend on their own internalised values.
As mentioned TM is less busy and much cheaper than Kowloon and HK Island. Depending where you decide to live will dictate the shock of culture but I am sure you will settle in just fine. Not sure what the nightlife is like but you are not too far from TST.
I would advise learning a little Cantonese when you are settled though as it can make life a little easier (although you can get by on English alone) but will also open the possibilities for friendships with locals.
Finally, welcome and enjoy!
If you have not been here before then find the nearest "cafe de coral" and order a hot pot in the evening.

tuen Mun has a nice park and a good shopping center with restaurants and a cinema. I have not been down to the ferry port so I can't comment on that area. It is not very westernised at all and if you see another westerner you can give the old silent nod.
Still I like this neck of the woods although only stayed ther at the mother in laws house whilst on holiday. There is good transport to HK side and Kowloon.
