    Getting started in HK

Hello! I will be moving to HK for school for a year. I have a few questions about what to do after I arrive. I have not found a place to live yet so I will be looking at places once I arrive there.
    - Do I need an address when I apply for a bank account? If I don't have a place yet, what address would I use? Which bank is the best one to use in HK? I am just looking to having a checking account. Are there any banks that offer free checking accounts? What do you need to open a bank account?
    - How long does it take to get a HKID card?

    Thank you for your help.

Bring some proof of address from your old place (I used my UK address) and your passport and you can walk into a HSBC and come out 30 minutes later with a working checking account and ATM card. Then just switch the address as soon as you have some proof of your new HK residence.

Book your HKID appointment online, after that the card takes 3 weeks.

We just picked up our HKID's after 2 weeks wait. But once you go in for your first appt, they will give you a temporary one to walk out with while you wait for your real one. When you book your appointment, try to avoid 11am to 2pm. They have signs there warning you to avoid the place at that time due to crowds.

    Information on buses:

    Citybus & NWFB

There's also an app from the same company.
