I am in the process of applying for work as a teacher in one of the English schools in HongKong, it is a contract for two years.
My partner was born in HongKong but left as a child, he has a UK passport. Therefore the only way he can get work is on a dependent's visa so we will get married as soon as possible when we arrive in Hong Kong.
At first my partner will stay at home as we have a daughter and we think it will be good for her to have one of us at home solely focussed on helping her settle and setting up home. We have the financial ability to do that for a while but as I am aware that jobs in HK can be difficult to come across my partner is going to look for work as soon as we are married and he has his visa.
My partner only has English as a language and he has a HND in mechatronics, for the past 7 years he has worked as a design engineer using CAD. What are the realistic chances of getting a job? We have done some research and seen positions he could do but they have not made clear what the language requirements are. They are also asking for an expected salary, over here he earns in the region of £30K GBP, will he get a similar salary over there ( my teaching salary in HK would be comparable)? If not what should he expect or put on his CV as expected earnings?
Thanks
