Household Goods - what to bring?

    Hi Guys,

I would be soon moving to HK from India. I was looking to get answers regarding what to ship from India, I have recently purchased all new stuff here and if possible want to get it along. My employer is providing is covering for relocation. My ques are specifically for the following
    1. LED HD TV ( I read that India and HK have different digital transmission formats, DVB-T and DMB-T....dont know if this TV would work there?)
    2. Fridge
    3. Bed (It is queen size, so should be able to fit in HK apts)

Some one told me about power fluctuations in HK and not to carry any electrical appliance....Look forward to your responses..

    Thanks

HK has first world electricity, no power fluctuations unless it's illegal apartment/house

We brought our TV over no problems....any transmission problem is PCCWs , not yours.

The fridge you can sell as you don't know the size of the space in where it will fit in the apartment/ house.

We brought my queen size half double four poster bed from Oz to tiny flat in UK, to
Dubai then here, and has managed to fit without any problem, even if it takes up most of the space. Electrical outlets here in HK take the UK plug prong. Depending on huge apartment, older styles will accommodate queen and even king size beds, whereas newer styles mostly fit double comfortably. ( apartments) Your best bet is before moving here, if time and finances permit, to check out areas in HK you might want to live in and the types of accommodation.

We shipped our electronics from Southern Europe and had no issues here other than changing the 2 pin plugs to 3.

You may not be able to catch the local digital tv signals on your TV, but that's it (local TV for English language programing is crap anyway). Cable/NOW TV will work. HK like India run the same voltage, no issues there. You will however need to use an adaptor for the power plug.

Things in HK is quite cheap
a normal quality LED TV 32" costs around 250USD, 37" cost around 450USD
The free digital TV system is DMB (main in China n Hong Kong), not DVB
If you subscribe Pay TV, it will be another issue. Any TV with AV input is fine.

    Electric supply
    Hong Kong. AC 220V,50Hz
    India should be AC 240V,50Hz

So please check the user manual of your appliances ^_^
