Depends on the airline, some will refuse to carry you without an onward/return ticket.

Just to clarify, is that only if you have a tourist visa stamped in HK? I have an unactivated employment visa and only booked a one-way ticket.

Check with your airline. What I found out, that some airlines don't take you on board without a ticket out of HK. A good option is to just buy an additional onward ticket to somewhere nearby, let's say Macau, which will suffice to get you in.

I'm still struggling to find a job in HK ... not an easy jobmarket if you're not into banking....
