It's a very valid point. If the OP's boyfriend wants to stray, he can do it anywhere but in HK the "opportunities" are everywhere and it seems to be quite acceptable. As a UK passport holder, you can check out the Working Holiday Visa Scheme, which would give you a year here. You do need to be self-supporting to a degree, i.e. money in the bank back home, return ticket, insurance, but it could give you some time here to network and find an employer who will sponsor an employment visa. You can work in a temporary job for up to 12 months.

This might also give you time to become licensed, take the exams, as an estate agent if you want to take that route.

Definitely take Claire's advice on this. You can at least work while looking for a job that will sponsor you a visa. Plenty of young people here and it is easy to make new friends.
