I completely disagree with you. In my opinion, the reality is the exact opposite of what you are saying, except for the salary part.

Exact opposite? Bizarre. Why would an employer who doesn't care about qualifications therefore care about the employee's visa situation?

Seems like failed logic to me. What usehername says seems completely logical.

There are plenty of language mills around who will sponsor visas, but the only qualification they care about is that the applicant is obviously caucasian.

There are also a (very) few who care more about the applicant's experience and proven ability than about their having any more quals than the minimum required by the ImmD.

    Xenophobic and INXS like this.

To sponsor a visa you would necessarily need to care about an applicant's qualifications (and so would, to an extent, immigration).

This is aggressive little forum isn't it? My experience of the situation is that two of my friends here have teaching jobs and no applicable background (one is an ex infantryman, for example), plus everyone is always telling me I should apply for teaching jobs, I'll get in easily. The guy I replaced did this and made a pretty OK salary. Personally I'm sick of the city so no thanks.

First, Hong Kong is a city.

    Second, why Hong Kong?

Third, would you be fulfilled tutoring classrooms full of young children?

What are you doing here now, Furey? I'm sorry you're sick of Hong Kong, many people really enjoy the challenges and opportunities. I'm curious why you chose to move here in the first place.
