A flat share on the island can also easily help you (ie share a 10/12K flat).
unless you use fast and convenient private coaches from Fairview park, hong lok yuen or lam tseun, commuting will be max HK$1000 via mtr or bus, minibus,

Aberdeen/Ap Lei Chau, for HK$8000 rent, can you even get a 200 sq ft flat that's clean, no creepy crawlies and doesn't involve 7 flights of stairs? but you are right on aspect, commuting will be a lot less at 20-30mins max

or are you referring to wah fu area, can this place be rented or even take on sub-let ?

Umm most locals don't have a relatively comfortable lifestyle (by my standards anyway) which is what the OP was asking about.

Now I know for sure it will be tough but I'm still going for it regardless. Gonna be brave and adventurous and work my butt off to get into a better paygrade. Hopefully there will be a payoff after the tough grind. After all I only have two years of experience since graduation and few hundred dollars will hopefully be chump change in later years!

Realistically you will likely be paying 40-60% of your take home pay (gross salary - mpf) in rent for very substandard housing (size, condition, etc). It also doesn't sound like you are in finance so career wise Singapore will likely be equal or better for you. Even for being two years out of university that's very low pay. Generally a starter salary here for an expat is like 25-30k a month.

Good point. Also if you come from overseas to fill a job that can't be filled by a local or where your employer feels that you would be better than the local candidates available how can your salary be compared to the median local household income in Hong Kong? What a meaningless comparison.

Your salary should really be judged vis a vis other expat employment visa holders since those are the people in your peer group. Johnny Local isn't stationed 7,000+ miles away from home with a job where his skills are needed due to his skills not being readily available in the local market, so whatever he or his household earns in income is irrelevant.
