Question Sending myself some clothes - custom issues?

    Hello,
I assume this is an issue many people had already. I move in fall from Germany. I can bring about 20kg of clothes and stuff with me on the plane. However this will not be enough. So I will send myself another 20kg of clothes via DHL. I am contacting the German authorities with regard to their custom regulations. Does anyone know it there are any cost if I send myself a package of clothes from the HK side? I have no idea about their worth. Some jeans and shirts are around 5-8y old... they are casual guy clothes I bought during my early 20s.

No cost at the HK end - the only goods on which there are customs duties in HK are alcohol, oil and motor vehicles.

And I'm 99.9% sure no issue at the German end either. I don't think anywhere in the world would raises taxes on moving used clothes around!

There is also duty levied on tobacco and motor vehicles. You can use Deutsche Post and send it surface if you want; it will work out cheaper and if you don't need your clothes immediately, you might as well save some money! I recently sent 12-15 kg back from Austria through surface mail and it only cost me 50-60 Euros.

Would it not be cheaper to buy extra baggage allowance on your flight?

Maybe cheaper to buy new clothes when you are in Hong Kong. Quite good quality clothes are reasonably priced.

I will fly cathay and according to my understanding of this chart it is

    60 USD per kg

Ouch! That's a crazy amount to charge. I've flown between Japan and London and only paid about £30 to take an extra 20kg suitcase. This is worrying as I was looking to take an extra bag from London to HK on CP as well

I think postage might be easier.

Some airlines (eg: Cathay) screw you big time.
Some airlines (eg: Air NZ) are very nice and reasonable with extra bag charges
While many others are somewhere in between.

Look at unaccompanied baggage not extra suitcase on plane. A fraction of the cost and cheaper than post.

Sent from my SM-N900 using GeoClicks mobile app

    vmlinuz and Natfixit like this.
