Average Age of Kindergarten and 1st Grade in HK

    Hello
We are considering a move to HK - not sure which area yet.
We have a July 6 year old. She'll be entering public 1st grade in September.

Curious - if we move - she'll most likely be enrolled in January.

What are the average ages of kids entering kindergarten and 1st grade, and is there a HK cut-off?

    Thanks in advance!

in the public system, kids can enter K1 provided they are 2y8m by Sept.1 of that school year. They then have 3 years of kindy so the earliest ones would enter P1 at 5y8m. Your daughter will be fine!

you can get all the info you need here

    P1, I'm assuming is 1st? (more)

So, she'd be right on target - with the same age group.

    Thanks.

Here, most 1st graders are going to be turning 7 Oct - Jan, etc). A recent trend is to hold back.

THanks again for the quick response.

If you decide to send your daughter to the ESF (British) schools, she should be in Y2. Our son turned 6 in June and he starts Y2 tomorrow.
