Sai Ying Pun, Kennedy town, some part of wanchai, North Point, Tai Koo, Tin Hau - in all of these places you can find 400 to 600 sqf flat for 15 to 25K depending on condition etc.
depending on condition, I presume at this price for space within hk island, possibility of 6-7 flights of stairs as there are no lifts as this is a old tenement building, chances that the building is damp and possibility of creepy crawlies and no hot water in the kitchen, thus, conditions not too dissimilar to a bad bed and breakfast place.

why suggest the OP to consider 450 sq ft for HK$17000 in harbor place ( quoted 2-3 months ago) in hung hom bay, , thus. not in the sticks, but only 25-35 mins from/to central daytime (10-15mins on lkf minibus after 10pm as it's walking distance from cross harbor tunnel adajacent to hk poly uni) , very nice, recently built and clean place, has gym, sport facilities outdoor and indoor swimming pool, restaurants

one of the largest park n shop is only 4 mins walk plus whampoa is 5 mins away, more importantly, whampoa mtr station will be open from 2016

Keep in mind the last train times. West rail I think is early 12am-ish AT the west rail line, and if leaving work in LKF, you need time to get to the MTR and take a train over to the west rail line.

Salary is always negotiable. If you can get 15k housing allowance, then go for it! That saves on your tax bill too (in this case saves more for the company), you can say.

In hung hom bay, last trains from east tst to hung hom is around midnight, but the options of 24 hour mini bus from outside of marks and spencer on the LKF hill, taxi from lkf as well as the last train makes it very ideal for the op

Olympic / Tai Kok Tsui area would work as well.

I never said Hughom was an issue....

It is fine. I only had issue with people suggesting Tai Po or GC or DB to a poster who requested something close to work...and knowing the work place is LKF.

Hunghom is like Tai Koo etc, it is fine and fit the requirement of the OP....really no big deal here Imparanoic., you can relax.

As for your assumption that stuffs in Sai Ying Pun etc would be damp or 7 flights of stairs: it is just that..an assumption.
There are decent places to be rented out in those areas for 15-20k - it just take more time to find. Mate of mine just moved to Sai Ying Pun (he used ot be in Ma On Shan so NOT a status thing but he was just tired with the commute) - 550sqf, on bedroom, renovated (nice), very decent view of the HK skyline -> 17k.

But yeah op can look at hunghom or olympic or wherever, never said the opposite....

I will drop the attitude if you get your facts right.

FYI - My office is now in the new China Resources Building Wanchai. It is 1 hr 5 minutes Door to Door
So basically Mat was saying it is about a 1 hour commute (per day it is a 1.30 to 2 hours) and you are arguing with him by saying it is actually, wait for it... a one hour commute! Classic Geo...

Anyway back to the original poster... I found moving from London with a 2 hour PER DAY commute to work compared to my current 30 minutes per day was one of the main benefits of moving to this city. Just so much more free time, especially in the evenings. Awesome. Anyway good luck with the move!

so please dont suggest GoldCoast or Tai po or the likes if he wants to keep commute down (whihc was also written by the OP).
It all depends on what's most important. Out of peak hour a commute to NT would be pretty quick. 962N runs all night - 45mins to Gold coast, just as an example.

Personally probably better to be looking at Pok Fu Lam or Kennedy Town but even that's going to be 20 mins or so.

Need to come and check it out. particularly re the asthma
