Or they live with parents and relative. The point is that even if he spends 6K on accommodation, he'll still have the salary of a security guard or something similar. It's possible to find something for 3-4K if you share, therefore enough to do what he wants but the margin of error is small...

    Thanks everyone for the help!

I am just wondering why it is soooooo difficult to find a job with a REAL salary, having a good diploma and 2,5 years working experience (of which 6 month in China)

Would it be enough then if I negociate a package :
flat for the 6 months (studio in Central area) + 12000HK$?

The employement visa will be provided by the company.

You won't get an employment visa for a role that pays less than $20k hk a month unless its a really specialised role which locals can't do and if its that specialised then why pay only 12k?

6 months studio? If they agree to it you won't be able to afford it once you have to start paying to be honest as that would pretty much eat up all your salary and you'll have nothing to live on.

There are much higher paid jobs out there but not right now especially if you're in finance. Out of curiosity what industry will you be working in?

I was going to ask much the same questions as Jimbo. What nationality are you? Do you think there might be any discrimination involved?

That's fiction. No way you'll get these rates anymore. Not even close.

I just want to point out it is possible to find some old village houses in Yuen Long or other areas of the New Territories out here for $1500-$2000 rent monthly. Two bedrooms 400sq ft but the houses are brick and have metal roofs. Some are terrible, but there is some decent ones. Commute to Central will be an hour though.

Still would not suggest $12,000 a month. Not very comfortable.(Even if housing is included) Plus Work Visa is very unlikely to be approved unless you company lies about your salary to immigration.

Are you sure it is HK$ 12,000 per month they have offered? Fresh marketing graduates get about that (or at least mine do).

Although 12K is about what spend in a month minus golf, I wouldn't choose to come to HK for that kind of money...

I'm a research graduate student at a local university here. We get ~13K per month here and you can live off it, yes. Especially if you find flatmates and are ok with a tiny room which you could get for 4K (I pay ~6K rent). But I live and study in the New Territories, eat in the school canteens, and whatever travel I do comes from my savings.... 12000HK$ would be the going rate for a local fresh grad. But none of those I know has his own flat. Flying to Shanghai every month? Hardly.

If it is a regular position, I wouldn't bother coming here on such a salary. I mean, if you're doing some real work, you're supposed to be able to save money rather then living off your savings...
