    Where should I live? 30k HKD/month

    Hiya,

After having worked in the banking industry in the Netherlands for a few years I've decided to follow my dream. I'm moving to HK and joining a start-up!

I'm flying in on the 27th of Feb and I've booked an Airbnb in Sheung Wan for the first month that I'm over. From there I plan to do some apartment hunting to find a more permanent spot.

In what area(s) and through what site(s) should I look?

    Some useful info:
    - My office will be located in Cyberport
    - I'll be earning about 30k HKD/month
    - I'm 26 and single
    - I'm not attached to space or belongings but do appreciate a private bathroom

Try Kennedy Town or Aberdeen, both of which have bus links to Cyberport.

Once you are here in HK, talk to local real estate agents in each area.

Do you like the party life of night clubs and lan kwai fong, if yes, consider sheung wan, causeway bay and wan chai

A walk-up shoebox in Sheung Wan/Wan Chai/anywhere close to the MTR on the island. That's what I'd do if I was 26. Enjoy the adventure.

Keep an eye on some of the shareflats here. You may find something you like.

If there's an ensuite then he can get a private bathroom but it will be a little more.

Yeah his budget is key. If I was on 30K I'd be looking to spend max 10-12K on rent.

30k, you want to find a shared apartment and get a room for around 6-7K.

I'm not sure how much I should be spending on rent. How big of a portion of my income should k allocate to living? What is normal in HK? In my current town, Amsterdam, most people spend around 50% on living.

Please let me know if this is correct:

I could probably get a room in shared apartment for 6k-7k and get a (tiny) studio for 10k-12k. I will probably be looking in Sheung Wan, Sai Ying Pun or Causeway Bay.

A shared apartment I should be able to find here on Geoexpat.com.

For a studio I should just walk into a random realtors office.
