Welcome to HK -hope you are not going to work until the visa is actually in your passport -you will not ,repeat not get paid -I am serious about this as many have been caught out thru being obliging to their schools. There will be no backpay...
also have you applied for the pre payment to help with set up costs ?First job is to get HKID card in train...see if your school is willing to help with some details ie flathunting ,helping open bank accounts etc .You will need everything on paper, in triplicate written in blood, andincidentally the patience of Job.But it is fun overall esp if your school is OK -lots of good things to do and plenty of NETS to hang out with.
Rents have come down so bargain hard -on the NET website a place for $11000 just readvertised for $8000-
TST side ? ?Maybe PM me with actual school name and location would help...
You are in for a culture shock, education wise so practice deep breathing and be ready to say "Let me think about that " smile ,breath ,stay cool before being rushed into various decisions and agreements. don't allow yourself to be rushed and railroaded .If they are nice thats good but always adopt an attitude of caution and closemouthed calm -tell them very little about your personal life and keep your powder dry. You will be hitting the ground running as it is the busiest term-things get saner after Xmas...
hang with some new and experienced NETS and stay in the loop -its a jungle out there... I think you are female ?Helena May is a good place to stay if you don't mind a single room with shared facilities -but its on HK Island and not sure if there are vacancies...
Good luck
