Cell Phone Plan for Calling to USA and Mainland China Frequently

    Hello,

My company will be moving me over to Hong Kong for approximately 3 months. Looking to find a phone plan where I can call USA and Mainland China frequently.

Any ideas which plan would work best for me? I've been unable to find one that looks like it has unlimited calling.

May or may not work for you, but my in-laws use Rebtel to call the US and other locations.

US works out to US 1 cent (i.e. USD 0.01 ) per minute. Voice quality is pretty good - I have reason to believe it is, since both ends of the call have people who have hearing problems.

No clue about China calls, many of the local providers have packages for unlimited / high volume China calls.

You could look into Skype? They have good packages for calling various countries and with the app it's almost like calling from a regular phone.

Have used this for years (but now with whatsapp calling it's becoming a thing of the past):

Agree with above. Whatsapp Calls and Skype is all you need these days.

Google Voice.. USD 0.01 per mins to China and free to USA. You can receive and make calls with your phone and PC. Superb voice quality. You need a US mobile number to activate it though.

Forgot about this. A friend of mine activated it while on a US trip and uses it frequently.

Localphone.com. Ridiculous price for most places. Credit doesn't expire. Like, ever. And runs down so slowly. I don't do that many foreign calls, so the 10€ I put sometime last year is still mostly unexpent. Just, don't use their calling app, and use any android or iphone SIP calling app (I'd recommend CSipSimple).

Many large and small local mobile and fixed line providers have cheap per minute charge like $0.1 to $0.3 or monthly plans calling China, US, Canada, UK, the EU and Australia. But usually exclude mobile numbers of UK, Australia and EU countries. Direct IDD calls from HK , China, US and Canada numbers are usually the cheapest countries in the list.
