And what languages do you speak, assuming you are meaning which one is best to move to. If you speak Japanese Tokyo may be fine, if you don;t I think you will find it alot harder to cope with than HK.

For me, Tokyo. Far better live music scene. Easier city to walk around. Non-high rise living is more affordable close to centre. Ski-ing. Better shopping and retail (for what I'm into). Climate. The whole Japanese food aesthetic. You can walk for miles and no-one bumps into you. Onsens. The whole clean, organised, efficient thing. Much larger "creative" community.

Then again - that's me. Everyone is different and experiences cities in different ways. I know people who love HK and can't imagine leaving and I've met people who lived here and hated it. Most people I know who've lived in Tokyo have loved it, but the working culture takes a lot of getting used to. Also, you can easily get by in HK without learning the language (if you are happy to live in a bubble, that is), but you can't really from what I can tell in Tokyo.

After HK I wouldn't be keen on most other Asian locations. But, I would jump at the chance to spend a few years in Tokyo.

It does depend what you are interested in.

I've only been on holiday in Tokyo and never lived there, but as an English speaker, HK is much, much easier to cope with. Very little English spoken in Japan anywhere, which just makes life harder. If you are good at learning new languages and learn some Japanese before you get there, might be fine.

It is a much larger place than HK so there are more places to visit, but I think getting western food is harder (we shopped a little in supermarkets but not much). I don't know much about the accomodation situation but have never heard Tokyo is cheap!

accommodation wise tokyo is not cheap, but quality of place rent is usually much better than HK (size, layout, finishing).

but if you are someone who thinks 30mins commute from home to office is the maximum you want, then maybe tokyo is tough for you.
