    Driving Licence - Car Rental

    Hi All

Moving to HK soon. I won’t need to drive in HK, but I will need to hire a car on my return to the UK. What’s my best option please?

    1) Keep the UK licence - but I won’t have a UK address. Will they accept my UK licence with my parents’ address on it but using proof of my HK address to be allowed to rent (many places seem to ask for recent bills and even soft online checks)?

    2) Swap to HK licence - but does that risk a ‘must have held a full licence for at least 12 months’ clause, or does the act of swapping not mean it is a ‘new’ licence in this context?

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks

Just exchange your license in HK. They'll let you keep your UK one. It's called "direct issue" or something like that. Don't even have to pass any test, just a day at the transport department.
