Post UK Engineer to HK. Summer 2021

    Hi all,

Me and my girlfriend are looking to move over around the summer 2021 to work internationally as an experience for a couple years.

I have a degree in Mechanical engineering with post graduate experience and will have 2-3 years experience. I have intermediate Cantonese proficiency (listening & speaking only). My girlfriend would be looking to go onto the NET scheme.

I have tried looking at jobs but majority are looking for people who are fluent in mandarin and/or Cantonese reading and writing. What are the job opportunities/chances like for someone like me and are companies open to hiring individuals who's only language is English. Has anyone else had to experienced this?

And how immediate would they often want you to start the job? How soon should I start looking? As my girlfriend is looking to apply onto a NET scheme course which usually starts in August and probably accepted around March/April time.

There are quite a few Bbc in HK, they don't need to speak Mandarin as well, as well no need to read Chinese either.

The main thing you need to be within hk to Start to apply for jobs here, if you state your overseas based, your application form goes straight in the bin.
