Question Couple-1 wrking Braemar Hill, other Kowloon.Where best to live?

Hi there, we are moving over to HK in 6months. I am def working Braemar Hill area, my husband maybe in Kowloon. Any suggestions where might be best to live? We figure just close as poss to my work cos that's all we have as definate yet. But Im aware its pricely up there.Hoping to pay $20,000 max for a 3 bd apt.We are interested in Soho for the art scene and vegetarian eateries etc but not sure how transport is up to Braemar Hill. Anyhow, any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated.

Er, you haven't been here have you?

"SoHo for the art scene and vegetarian eateries"? I think you mean "eatery". Basing your choice of accommodation round one restaurant would seem a tad strange. Restaurants come and go here all the time (although veggie ones come quite rarely).

Get a serviced apartment for a month when you get here and take the time to look around.

For places on HK island and within your budget (and less than 30 minutes to Braemar Hill), look in Sheung Wan, Wan Chai, North Point, Causeway Bay and Quarry Bay. All have access to the MTR and other transport options. Kennedy Town, Aberdeen and Pok Fu Lam also have places within budget, but a bit further out with fewer transport options (no MTR). You may be able to find a place in Happy Valley also within your budget, but won't have quite as many options. Sheung Wan in particular is close to Soho, and maybe 20 minutes door to door to offices in Braemar Hill area. North Point is quite close to Braemar Hill (walking distance). Its easy enough to get to Kowloon on the MTR from any of the above locations also.

PDLM's serviced apartment suggestion is a good one. It will give you time to check out different neighborhoods before settling.

I would recommend Causewaybay, Tin Hau area if you're looking into places near breamar hill. just a bus ride up to the hill, and a bus ride over to kowloon side for your husband, or alternatively you can take the MTR which is a short ride away to kowloon.

Thanks very much for the helpful, unsarcastic responses. Clearly we have not been to hong kong before or else I wouldn't be asking for help on this website!

and yes, we have already planned to get a serviced apartment to give us a chance to look around, but great to get other more experienced people's opinions on various areas to consider living longer term and check that my research is not far off the mark.

Thanks again. Im sure you'll see my many ignorant questions popping up over the next few months! including considering bringing my cat! i know i know - many people think i am insane - but i have read some positive stuff on the pet forum threads! we'll see.

I am arriving in August so still have time to plan and consider.

I would live right on Braemar Hill! I grew up there. There are quite a few good vegetarian restaurants in Causeway Bay too, which is only a few minutes away.

thanks jay! yes, that would be great - very bushy and green looking up to the mountain behind which is beautiful. if we can find a good deal when we are over then Braemar Hill, North Point or Causeway Bay will probably be where we end up.

Did you go to school up there?
