Dependant visa holders are allowed to work in Hong Kong unless specifically stated in the visa that permission is denied (exception is dependant visa holders from Mainland china). You can call immigration if in doubt.

as stated above, you are allowed to work.

i would budget more for a flat. of course, it depends on where you want to live.
most flats are semi-furnished (with electrical appliances).

there are no "indian areas". there are indians in most parts of hk.

what are the rules for the dependent spouse if my husband has a job in hongkong..? IF YOU ARE HOLDING DEPENDANT VISA, THEN YOU CAN SEE FROM VISA STAMP, IF THERE IS ANY RESTRICTION TO WORK. IF NO RESTRICTION, THEN YOU CAN WORK
as he will be on work permit and i on dependent visa am i allowed to work....what will be my working status..? YOUR WORK PERMIT ONLY DEPENDS TO YOUR DEPENDANT VISA

You may work freely without further paperwork.

HK$4-5K will only get you something very small, very basic and/or very remote.

    There are no "Indian areas".

I hope I'm not breaking some taboo by stating the obvious, but TST has always struck me as an "Indian area". Though I don't know if they live or just work there. I don't know what rents there are like but I imagine they are on the lower end of the scale.
For the record I'm living with my wife in a $4K serviced studio in Causeway (for short term) - nice if you don't mind being in a box but maybe not suitable for long term or if there are two (or more) of you.

MyCsPiTTa, which serviced appartment you're staying in? I'm looking for something small but clean for 2-3 months. Any more details would be appreciated.

    Cheers!
