Is Seven Seas Worldwide still reliable?

I need to send books and clothes from Boston to HK by air. I am thinking of using Seven Seas Worldwide. But after reading the following comments, I feel a little bit scary.

But I think by-air shipping might be better and will not get my stuffs stuck like that.

Run from this company like the plague. I shipped my belongings from London back to the US. It took me a year and a half to get my stuff after they lost my paperwork. They never once called or mailed a letter the entire time! I received three email responses only over this time, with PDFs of the paperwork I was somehow supposed to fill out and email back. I had already mailed physical copies to London. Nothing. Nine months later I faxed my paperwork to the "American rep", secured proof and emailed it to them in London demanding acknowledgement of the receipt of my paperwork. Several months later I was informed they had received my paperwork, but I now had to pay SEVERAL HUNDRED ADDITIONAL POUNDS for the "storage" of my belongings over this time. Again, not a single call ever returned, ever. Not a single letter. Only three emails with PDFs that most people can't edit digitally. Over a year and a half. And then my belongings held hostage over additional payment, them knowing I can do nothing from another country except pay. How is this company still in business?

Frankly this is completely implausible. But they say that if a company only gets good reviews then it must be bogus - having one or two customers who aren't able to follow simple instructions and get snotty about it just proves that they are real.

I stand by my recommendation. Very efficient, very smooth, exactly as promised. No issues at all.

I used them to ship 5 tea chests of personal belongings from London to HK. They were good. Everything arrived fine within the specified timeline, no damage, didn't even smell musty (and I had my stuff in storage for 1 month before shipping). There were a couple of cracked CD cases but that seemed okay to me - probably should have packed them inside rather than at the edge of the box.

Their admin was a little random (eg, said I only needed to pay when I ordered the shipping - my stuff was going into storage - but then invoiced straight after pickup), but they always sorted everything out right away. Overall, I was happy with their service and price and would use them again.

They were good at the Australia end, but once our stuff arrived, a few days before us, we were informed that the storage rates in HK were much higher than we were told, and when they brought it to our building (about 10 boxes, I think) they wanted some ridiculous amount to carry each box up the six steps to get to our elevator. I personally wouldn't go with them again.

If you had a quotation on storage then surely they have to honour it?

I hope you gave them feedback on their local staff trying it on to carry boxes up 6 steps?

I used them to ship my stuff (about 15 boxes) from Germany to here last summer with no problems. It was very DIY in Germany regarding packing and pick up.
They arrived here earlier than estimated and said they would store all the boxes until estimated date free of charge.

    Insurance?

Can any past customers of Seven Seas share with me their insurance policy? I understand from their website that it's "all risk". What's included / excluded? Has anyone been successfully filed a claim?

    Thumbs down BEWARE

The value of a company is in the service delivered when things go wrong. Sevenseas may be an average company when things go according to plan but personally I had a very nasty experience. I had my goods picked up mid june 2009 from Atlanta Georgia. They lost one of my pakages and did not trace it for few weeks. then they said they would ship it immediately and took another few weeks to actually ship it. The customer service during all this was pretty bad. when the goods finally did arrive in mid october(5months later!) they were adamant that they would deliver only at a particular time and not accomodate any other timing otherwise would charge me a penalty of 150 dollars.

    EXTREMELY UNSATISFACTORY EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!

Er, mid-June to mid-October is only 4 months, not 5.
