Young Aussie couple: where to live in HK?

We're two mid-20s Aussies looking to move to HK.

We currently both work in the fashion industry, live in Sydney's eastern suburbs and love being close to the action.

In HK we'd ideally love to live somewhere similar: lots of restaurants, bars, cafes, etc

We've only been to HK once before so are unsure of the areas expats live. Can anyone point us in the right direction?

Mid-Levels West/Soho area would be good for you. Close to all the bars and restaurants. About a 12 mins walk to the Pier for ferry trips. Easy to grab a cab or a minibus, etc. Alternatively, you could look at Wanchai too.

Stanley is way too far out forpeople who want to be in the action. Mid levels if you can afford it otherwise maybe Sheung Wan which is cheaper than Mid levels but just as close to the action or Wanchai.....

Really it depends on your budget. It's great for people to say you should live in central but it's a lot of money to be that close to the bars. As an artist who frequents the fashion scene you guys could go Sham Shui Po or Olympic since you guys will be spending a lot of time in that area for buying, etc. (It's where the fabric, supplies and wholesalers are) and then you could just travel to the party in central or wanchai.
I say better to live close to work than the party because you don't have far to walk with a hang over.

There are a number of alternative (to Central / Mid Levels) areas developing like Wanchai, Quarry Bay etc etc which offer perfectly decent access on the Island side to a range of bars and restaurants, MTR and commercial buildings / shopping.

Kowloon has its pockets of coolness too.

Are you coming on working holiday visas or what? You are aware that you can't legally just turn up and start living in Hong Kong unless you have Right of Abode here?
