It's not that bad. I love the food here and the air is cleaner than in HK. I have been a PR since last year and it wasn't my intention to move but since my boss really wants me in HK I'm seriously considering my options. As long as we won't step backwards financially it should be a viable move.

As long as I don't take up my CPF, I won't loose PR status. Anyway, we don't plan to return to Singapore if we leave.

Pretty solid advice so far, would only add that there are a range of options between being in Mid-levels and far away in the New Territories. It's perfectly possible to get a 1000' place on HK side for your budget if you go only a little out from Central (a few stops on the MTR or a short bus ride). Similarly there are a huge range of options in the NT from far out to surprisingly convenient.

Re-entry permit has an expiration date. But anyway, it won't be a problem since you don't plan to return there.

May I add a question? I was told that the difference in cost of living between singapore and hong kong is about 15%, which means, HK = 1.15 * Singapore. Do you agree with this figure? Or what is the figure you would think it should be, if you must put a figure for the difference.

    Thanks.

Including accommodation (rental)? I was told expense is about the same excluding accommodation, but 15% more expensive in terms of accomodation/renting a flat.

    Thanks.

I'd say that's about right - obviously it depends a bit on your lifestyle and how flexible you are in terms of wanting specific foodstuffs or specific branded items.
