Going rate for Cantonese Private Tuition

I just received a quote for private Cantonese tuition and reading and writing chinese.
I was quoted at $180 an hour, which seems reasonable to me. I was just wondering whether anybody else has took private cantonese lessons, and if so, what price they paid for those lessons, thanks

Just to be clear, is this for 1-on-1 tuition or in part of a group?

Depends on their qualifications - and your levels and needs. There are a lot of Cantonese speakers out there - if you just want to pick up a few basic phrases then language exchange would work.

Was the quote from a private tutor or a Language Centre?

Sounds very good, especially if it is a real tutor with experience and not a random native speaker who wants to make some money.

I know a Cantonese teacher who charges at least 500 HK$ per hour for private tuition. He has 10+ years experience with people from overseas and also teaches classes for exchange students at the Chinese University. His private clients are mainly executives at financial institutions.

I really want one on one tuition, a classroom environment wouldn't suit me, because I would like to be able to have more input into what I would be working on with the teacher, and also, because of my schedule, I would need to be able to have a certain degree of flexibility with the time slot.
Flat Hunter, the quote was from a language centre advertised on gumtree.

I suppose I don't really have that much to lose, because if I was just paying one lesson at a time, and I wasn't satisfied, I would be able to cancel whenever I wanted, whereas with classes, if I paid for 10 lessons upfront and wasn't happy, I wouldn't be able to get my money back!

I know a Centre that offers trial lesson first for one-to-one. If you are happy with the trial then you can sign up for a block of lessons. PM me if you want details.

For one- on-one Cantonese tuition HK$180/hr is reasonable.
A bilingual friend of mine, a studio broadcaster, does $150-180/hr lesson for starters and i think > $200/hr for more advanced learners. So judging by that classroom lessons should be less than $150/hr.

I pay 330 per hour on one on one session (language Center) so 180 is definitely a good deal.

I am lucky because it is covered by my employer though.

I pay $100/hour for Cantonese. She knows the tones and Jyutping pretty well too! More $ doesn't mean better! I paid $50/hour for Mandarin!!
