    HKU residence halls

    Greetings to all.

Hi. I'm a newly accepted student at HKU BBA program. My school year starts in this upcoming September and I have been browsing on the net for quite some time about hall choices. To me personally, I would love to live in a more lively hall as to having activities and parties and a large population and such. Therefore, at present my first priority is Starr Hall (can someone confirm my source as Starr Hall hosts the largest population of students?).

I would love to hear from anyone out there with knowledge about the halls. Information regarding hall life and photos are much more appreciated.

The web I found that had been helpful is the CEDARS. However, the information is somehow official (just like all others); stating shared/not shared rooms, population of halls, locations etc. I would love it if someone can give a more "insider" thoughts on the halls (the ones who actually live/lived in them).

Here is the CEDARS website: Accommodation

Any help would be much more appreciated. I hope to make this thread active and helpful to any students coming to HKU.
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

    Cheers,
    Alex

The hall setup in HKU isn't like any other university setup... The halls are full of rules and order: no alcohol, no visitors allowed after a certain time, no members of the opposite sex allowed, sign out and sign in, feels more like a prison than a university hall life!! etc. The hall life is full of 'activities', but non of the activities of the international halls, not much partying will be held there! 2am wake up calls for a group bonding activities...5am running sessions, etc! There are some parties held but rather outside of the university, such as in LKF and wanchai. Out of all the halls starr hall is the most international, but still as 'local' as you can go!

Out of all of the halls starr hall is the most international, but you will have to have a shared room! Only st johns has single rooms for first year, although you can actually apply for the postgraduate single rooms in St johns even thou you would be a undergrad. Other choices could be renting around kennedy town or sai ying pun? A bit more expensive, but would secure you a single room and freedom!

BTW I don't actually live in halls as I didn't want to have to share and take part in these activities, but have many friends who live there and despise of it! I live in a studio a short walk from the university in kennedy town. But you might actually want to and enjoy in taking part in these activities! Own personal thoughts thats all!
