    University of Sunderland PGCE

Can anyone tell me if they have taken the PGCE course from The University of Sunderland in the UK and are currently teaching in HK? You can private message me if you like.

The link to the course follows: http://www.sunderland.ac.uk/course/1...ation_overseas

I want to know if the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ) will accept the Distance PGCE from The University of Sunderland in the UK.
    HKCAAVQ Website: http://www.hkcaavq.edu.hk/

I would like to know as employment as a certified teacher is contingent on their approval. Please let me know if they successfully approve these credentials as the HKCAAVQ will only disclose approval for completed degrees.

Thanks in advance for any help that you can give!

The distance PGCE does not include the practicum and thus does not lead to UK QTS. It is not considered equivalent to a full PGCE or to an HK PGDE and does not count as a teaching qualification under EdB rules.

I have spoken with EDB administrators and they informed me that the QTS is not necessary. They said the academic credential is sufficient as long as the HKCAAVQ approves it.

If anyone is using a distance learning credential in HK please let me know. Thanks for all of your help!

I know several people who have done it and work successfully in HK. Academic credential folk view this qualification with degree as equivalent to education degree. PGCE also includes 14 weeks placement at a school, so it includes observed practice.
