    Teaching salaries

    Hi teachers,

Just wondering what a HK teacher would/can be earning on NET or working for an International school per year? (Not exactly motivated by the $$$ but good to know the lowdown)

    Cheers all,

    AT

There are vast differences between International Schools depending on number of years of experience. Bonuses are different, housing allowances.

With at least 10 years experience you could have a monthly salary of around 50K with with a bonus of 5-25% and other benefits like housing allowances, air tickets, MPF depending on the school.

Lower end would be about 20K monthly + other benefits

Considerably higher I believe - after a couple of contracts add 10% retention bonus to the basic.

Nearer 63K before gratuities and other extras.

Oh yes, I forgot about the gratuity and the retention. But 63k per month? That's loads!

Straight from the website:EDB - Recruitment for Secondary NET

The salary scale of GM is from around HK$21,830 to HK$45,970 (*approx. US$2,805 to 5,907) per month (12 months a year). Candidates with a PGDE or equivalent (not TEFL/TESL) qualifications will enter at HK$24,050 (approx. *US$3,091) per month. Those without a local PGDE or equivalent will not be permitted to proceed beyond a salary bar which is at present set at HK$21,830 (approx. *US$2,805) per month. The pay point of the salary bar is under review and any revision will be announced by the Education Bureau in due course.

15% gratuity will be granted if your performance and conduct during the period of service have been satisfactory.

A cash retention incentive, 5% OR 10% of basic salary will be provided to eligible NETs for the satisfactory completion of the third and fourth year OR the fifth year of continuous service onwards in Hong Kong respectively. The incentive is not payable for the first two years' of continuous service.

Passage, baggage and medical allowances and a special allowance of HK$12,950 (*approx. US$1,664) per month are provided for appointees whose normal place of residence is outside Hong Kong. (A NET will not be eligible for the special allowance if his/her normal place of residence is not outside Hong Kong or his/her spouse is currently receiving the same allowance or any housing benefit from his/her own employer.)
