    Working student in HK

Sorry to tell you that international students under the student visa can only work in their subject related jobs as internships , and it's not easy for a student to find a job that can cover your expanses (hk is the third most expensive city in the world!!) so you need to really be careful before making a move .. Coz at least u need 3500hkd a month just to eat and wash your cloth ..

    Reading is fundamental people.

As a permanent resident you are eligible for subsidized education and loans. Tuition and fees are around $42,000 for 2013-2014 at HKU. It may be doable if you have enough savings to get you out here and into suitable housing with a healthy buffer for other expenses, but it's probably going to be tight.

That's so cheap.. Masters degrees and so on are more expensive, right? I just had a look at a Juris Doctor course and its around 37 grand USD.

Unless you're a permanent resident you pay three times as much.

HKU charges less than $20,000 USD p.a. for the JD program?

Sorry I should have said it was for the entire course. (2 years)

Master of Laws in Human Rights looks interesting.

I thought so too. I don't have an LLB though, so that's out of the question!

To the OP: tell your boyfriend to finish school if he's almost done. What is he thinking?

I was on a dependant visa and counted as a "local" student at hku.
