    @hullexile yep business courses have higher IELTS requirements as more language production, critical thinking and analysis expected, pure maths or physics less focus on communication. Also over subscription of business courses from foreign students - higher gateway expectations.

    Main problem has always been adaptation to Western style study skills - from especially Chinese style. Chinese students often struggle with the transition. The IELTS farms which just churn students out with set rote learnt answers - especially for speaking - send people out with the scores but not the skills. Makes my blood boil.

    In the UK there's been a lot of back tracking on entry requirements since the TOEFL scandal so knee-jerk reaction has been up the IELTS band required as well. All a big bloody mess.

    Still possible to find lower entry band requirements for under subscribed courses where there's a skills gap. Have met some 4.5 scores who are significantly better than 6.5 scores. A mess.
