10th May - EDB - Schools cancelled after red rainstorm warning

Has there been an EDB announcement today about school closures?

Saw a message on whatsapp and have not been able to get through to the EDB site.

Son had a normal bus pickup this morning.

    From RTHK

As the Red Rainstorm warning signal is now in effect, students of morning and whole-day schools are not required to attend.

The Observatory issued the Red Rainstorm warning at 7:35am.

Residents in the northern New Territories are also being advised to take precautions against flooding.

The Observatory says more than 70 millimetres of rainfall have been recorded in the past hour in areas including Yuen Long, Pat Heung and Kam Tin.

Members of the public are also being asked to report any street flooding.

Schools are closed, but the red rainstorm signal was implemented rather late, so a lot of kids have gone in already.

Most teachers and students are already on their way by 7.35am if not arrived. I saw many students get a terrific soaking, what for? Students sent home, no classes and a lot of bedraggled teachers.

Couldn't some genius have cancelled school before the soaking?

Thankfully our school is not asking parents to pick up kids, or sending the kids home.

The Hong Kong Observatory has issued the Red Rainstorm Warning Signal. The school is open and contingency plans are being activated to supervise those students who have already arrived at school, or are already on their way to school, until the end of school hours.

Students who have not yet left for school should stay at home and do not have to attend school today.

Students on their way to school should proceed, or return home if conditions are safe.

Staff should follow their school contingency plan, provided that their personal safety is not put in danger.

For those students who are at school, the school buses at the end of the school day will run as usual as long as conditions are safe for the students to be allowed to return home.

    KGV is not closed

Exams - All examinations continue today as normal
The red rain warning does not affect examinations at KGV today. If it is safe for you to get to school, please do so.
Lessons and school continue as normal

Still not seeing anything on the EdB website, but RTHK has this:

Schools cancelled after red rainstorm warning - RTHK

(edit: I now see the announcement on the EdB website)

EDB site needs some serious help to scale up during these announcements.

I also note (from the EdB announcement) that parents are not required to pick up their kids immediately and that schools must make arrangements accommodate students who have already arrived. So it seems some schools didn't get the memo if they're asking parents to take the morning off work and pick up their kids, or are telling kids to come in for lessons regardless of the signal.
