I agree with the writer but I think there's an underlying problem that makes parents behave like that. All the elite schools and kindergartens are a mistake. In most other countries kids just go to a local school or kindergarten. Universities there don't care what school you went to they just care about your marks or sport achievements. Employers don't demand degrees from "top universities" they just look at your uni results, experience and how you answer interview questions. It's this unnecessary extreme competitiveness that's the problem. No one wants to miss out or take a slower pace because they don't want to lose to other people. It's like "if my neighbours take their kid to piano lessons to get into a better school, I will take my kid to piano and violin lessons so that my kid can beat their kid".

That's bullshit that employers don't look at where u go to school. In some fields firms only recruit at elite schools. If you went to a run of the mill university you aren't going to be recruited. Top grades might give u a chance but where you went to school matters. Ivy League and elite UK schools are the schools of choice for investment banking, strategy consulting and law.
