Exclamation Can anybody RECOMMEND a Mandarin private tutor?

Hi all. I urgently need to learn some very basic Mandarin next week (i.e. 18th - 24th July) and am looking for a private tutor. I have seen the Tutoring section here but that's full of adverts by tutors themselves, which doesn't really say much about their teaching capabilities. Can anybody actually recommend a private tutor they used and were happy with? Thanks!!! P.S. TUTORS - please don't post about your services here!

I am facing the same problem as you.
I need to improve my mandarin within a short period for my work.

I'm an international school Chinese teacher, not a tutor. And I will not recommend myself here as I'm not providing any service.

I replied to this post just for fun~~~

Forget tutors. They are for very advanced learners. You won't learn anything. Get a good structured course from a bookshop. It's cheaper too.

Sorry, but I don't agree. Books are for those very disciplined visual learners. But many ppl, including myself, are more of audio learners. A tutor can motivate you. But yes, very costly.

Tutors are seldom motivators other then the motivation to get your cash. A well structured course is better. And you can do it anytime, a few times a day. A tutor rarely will agree on 3 times a day for 15 Minutes.

Without that motivation it's pointless to start in the first place.

I think it all depends on individual needs and learning style. For me, I could never speak English fluently without English teachers and English speaking friends. Grow-ups thinks too much about cash. CUHK has very good beginner course to offer.
