Rosaryhill School to "merge" with Dalton...

Almost sounds like the folks who own Dalton made god an offer she could not refuse.

The school’s sponsoring body, the Dominican Missions, earlier announced that Rosaryhill Secondary on Stubbs Road will cease operations from the 2025-2026 academic year, and will no longer admit new students from next year.

It also announced that Rosaryhill Kindergarten and Rosaryhill (Primary) School will be combined with Dalton School Hong Kong to ensure a sustainable development going forward.

But the decision to close Rosaryhill Secondary raised eyebrows among both school staff and parents.

It is not immediately known whether or not the Rosaryhill-Dalton merger includes a change of ownership in Rosaryhill's prime Stubbs Road campus.

If considered purely from a commercial perspective, it is absolutely fine for the Dalton management and Dominican Missions that runs Rosaryhill to reach any agreement as long as it is done within the law and if both sides are content with the terms.

After all, Hong Kong is still a free economy, right?

Dalton is rather new to the local education scene. The school, which opened in 2017, was co-founded by Everbright Charitable Foundation, Sun Hung Kai & Co Foundation, CITIC Capital Charitable Foundation Limited and asset management company Value Partners.

It is reported that, following the merger, Dalton will move from its current address on Hoi Fai Road in West Kowloon to Stubbs Road to occupy Rosaryhill's campus.

Interesting .. from one of the comments in another BL post...

“The monastic structure of the building was only a temporary measure to be used for the school. A more appropriate building was needed both for educational purpose and for meeting the requirements of the Educational Ordinance. Fr. González negotiated with a Hong Kong Construction Company that agreed to build a new school building with a capacity for 5500 students, in exchange for ……… the ownership of about two-thirds of the land property whereas the school kept the ownership of the rest”

No doubt someone like David Webb can identify the HK Construction Company.

"Construction Company" is incorrectly capitalized in the comment and in their 50 year report... it is a generic construction company ... "Hong Kong construction company" ... thought it was the name of an actual company.

I am sure there are records somewhere in some govt report...

    Another update..

In a transition committee meeting on Friday under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, it said Yu Chun Keung Memorial College No 2 in Pok Fu Lam agreed to admit Rosaryhill students from all grades in the next school year.

    ....

But parents were unhappy, saying the Pok Fu Lam school is in a lower band and that it is hard to ensure a smooth transfer for existing Rosaryhill teachers.

But alumnus Eva Charisa Hsu, who attended the meeting, did not hold out much hope that junior secondary students can continue to study at the school.
