Hi,

For beginners learning piano, is it better to go for Private lessons at home?
For the different centers like Tom Lee Music etc. do you have any children learning at the centers and can you recommend any center in particular?

Frankly speaking, Tom Lee's are pretty commercial and not really good for encourage the learning attitude for kids. Private lessons must be better. However, to have an understanding and responsible teacher is also important. Don't just focus on the qualifications of the teacher.

Could you please elaborate on your experience with the Tom Lee music courses and why you think they're not good for the 'learning attitude of children'?
They teach the Yamaha Music Courses which i have trained for overseas. Teachers undergo a thorough training program which emphasizes - amongst many musical things - on giving positive feedback and fostering a lifelong process of inquisitive learning.

I would be interested in your experiences with them.

go to the tom lee website - yamaha classes are taught at tom lee.

please don't feel offence, but it's true that i and some of my freinds share the same feeling for tom lee. we don't suspect their professional
and instrumental skills, but getting along with kids is another issue, and
some of them we met is a bit insufficient in it, this does affect the kid's learning attitude. anyway, this is just our unfortunate experiences, doesn't mean that all the teachers' the same.

thanks aloivtan, i was just interested - i haven't seen the yamaha courses in action here. they did want to hire me but the terms and conditions were very unsatisfactory so i didn't end up joining!
They must all be overworked and underpaid!
