    Liveabord - Junk in Aberdeen

I'm interested in living on a Junk in Aberdeen, but got no idea where to start looking. Any places in Aberdeen that specialise in renting out junks? Any noticeboards?
Do you think renting a basic Junk for under HK$ 10,000 (everything included) is realistic?
    I would appreciate any tips...

I'm certain there aren't any boat-dwelling expats (at least not with internet connection)

I'm no expert but I think that the boat dwellers tend to have lived for several generations in that lifestyle and some are illegal immigrants (hearsay). I think you'll have a hard time trying to 'organise' this kind of accomodation. It's a bit like saying, 'I want to live in a shanty town'.

Actually -- there are quite a few.
There is quite a community at the Gold Coast Yacht Club amongst the Pilot Community. My friend who is a CP pilot has one. When I was at the HKYC I am sure I saw an area for the same and no doubt the others will have the same facility.

I'll vouch also, that excluding Aberdeen, in almost any other yacht club controlled marina, you are going to experience a majority expat live aboard 50ft junk style boat community. ( DB, HH, GC yacht clubs all good examples )

And yes, they do have all the mod cons ie, electricity supply, telephone and of course DSL internet connection, even air conditioning on board. Who knew ?

Some of them are larger and considerably nicer inside than most rental apartments, bigger than the average mid levels shoe box, lets put it that way, and with 700 - 1200ft internal usable space, enough space for a family of 4 inc a dog/cat, no problem.

    Aberdeen Junkboat Living

Few places in Hong Kong can replicate the satisfaction of peace and quiet you can get from being in tranquility of the sea's proximity, yet you can get right into the game in Hong Kong in a short ride. People (expats and locals alike) create a friendly and neighborhoody feeling which I never felt on the other side of the island. Air is better, and nature is at your front door. A boat, a slip, electric and water hookups can be had if you ask around. There is a boat club nearby which has all the amenities you could possibly need.

Shame on the fellow who boat living in a previous post, but I guess some people don't know how good others have it!

Take some time and check it out.

this thread is very old, but I'd be interested in any information about who to contact or where to go to enquire about living on a boat. I've always wanted to live on a houseboat and I guess I didn't really know it was an option in HK.

I am interested to know how these liveaboards deal with shower, sink and toilet waste/water? Is it held for collection in tanks or treated onboard and discharged into the marina/harbour?
