    LOVE HK movies...any suggestions?

I absolutely love Wang Kai-War, but quite aside from that I really enjoyed movies like 'And I hate you so...' (shameful, but true!)

Any other suggestions along the same line?

Many thanks! I also love poetry and opera so anything would be useful :-)

You can check out reviews in English here: LoveHKFilm.com - Reviews of movies from Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, and more

Johnnie To is the man at the moment but he's not really like Wong Kar Wai (much better imho, but personally I don't really rate WKW for anything other than the visual look of his movies). I would reccomend Election & Election 2, Exiled, PTU, Throwdown etc.

You can also check out films by Christopher Doyle as he was WKW's cinematographer so he was heavily involved in creating the WKW look.

You could maybe look at Pang Ho Cheung's Exodus and Isabella (Exodus is not a very good film but has some stylistically similar elements to Wong Kar Wai, Isabella less so but it's a much better movie).

If you also like poetry you can check out Broadway Cinemateque in Yau Ma Tei as they're an arthouse cinema and also organise poetry readings occasionally.

I'm a huge fan of WKW as well. Assuming that you've seen Fallen Angels/Chungking Express/Happy Together/In The Mood For Love, I would also recommend movies by Fruit Chan (Made in Hong Kong) and Johnnie To (The Mission and Exiled).

Anything which involves Chow Yun Fat, directed by John Woo is worth watching and collecting in my books.

Stephen Chow Sing Chi's movies are pretty good too.

I loved the Young and Dangerous series.

I also like Wong Kar Wai. He really makes good use of dialogue, color tone and camera lens! I recommend you to watch "In the Mood for Love" and "Chungking Express". Maybe you can also have a look on his "My Blueberry Nights". It was his first Western movie!
