If performers/singers can't draw a crowd to their concerts, then it only discourages other acts coming to Hong Kong as part of their world tours.

Madonna went to Japan, but not other countries in the Asia area or Australia.

U2 are about to tour Australia, NZ & Japan. They are selling out Telstra Stadium in Sydney (70,000 seats) twice, plus a third concert has been announced. They are also playing other cities in Australia because Aussies support (most) performers who take the time to travel so far to tour Australia.

Kanye West is support for U2 - not sure how good he will be.

So, if you want to see the big names in music (western music anyway), then it looks like you will have to go to Japan, Australia or further afield.
Kayne West and U2 sound like an odd mix. Is rap a popular genre in Australia?

Hahaha This made my day. She is pure TRASH.

I don't believe anyone would actually pay to watch her live.

I'll pay just to HEAR her sing live.

Grown-up people also liked JACKASS, so the sequel...

It is a very odd mix. Rap is not THAT popular in Australia. Not sure of the real reason U2 chose him for support. He doesn't have a massively loyal following in Australia. Most people were surprised/dissappointed that U2 didn't chose one of the better Australian Bands as support.

Oh well, I will just put up with him. U2 are worth the pain.....

    Kayne / u2

Peeps, the u2/Kayne pairing has nothing to do with AUS and whether they particularly like rap... Kayne has been u2's sidekick for many concerts in the Vertigo tour. KW wasn't QUITE as bad as I'd expected, went to the Portland OR show in the states last fall. It was funny though that the stadium didn't fill up until after Kayne's stint was over...

I dont dislike Kaynes music just thought it was an odd pairing. The track "gold digger" is universal IMO.

The problem with concerts here is that they try and get artists like Mariah Carey who aren't really very current and who don't really have a fanbase in Asia and then wonder why no-one wants to go. They also try and put them into a huge stadium at ridiculous prices.
I went to the Placebo concert at Hi-tec which is a smaller venue but the sound was good and it was sold out almost at HK380 per ticket. The crowd was mostly local kids and they were really getting into it and singing along to all the songs- even the pixies covers.
If Japan can do the Fuji Rocks Festival then there is no reason why HK can't do something. Unfirtunately no-one has faith anymore because of these late cancellations and shams of mockeries like Rockit.

I was in two minds about seeing Kanye, but I've made my mind up now. I'm not going. I wouldn't want to support Edison in any way.
