    Thumbs down havana

so we went to havana on staunton (i think) last night for dinner... i had high hopes because i once had a great mojito there, and i love cuban food.

    it was terrible.

it was so terrible, in fact, that we actually left without finishing our meals. i even left half a glass of wine because dinner was so bad. the beef tasted... dirty. i don't know how else to describe it. it tasted like someone had dropped it in the dirt and rolled it around before serving. yick. the dirty rice tasted like regular pineapple fried rice, but with some beans tossed on top. boring. the lamb was ok, but nothing to write home to mom about, and the bread was meh with meh sauce. overall, probably the least exciting meal i've had in hong kong in the last 6 months. so un-exciting i had to write about it!

don't go there for dinner. you'll leave dissatisfied and smelling like stinky cigars!!!

We had our company Christmas party there last year. The food was very disappointing. Their attempts at fusion Caribbean cuisine were pretty bad. Jerk hummus? sounded interesting, but it was pretty nasty. I agree with you on this one Jen...give Havana's food a miss.

Never tried Cuban food before. So is there no good place for that in town?

Not that it's much use but there's a great Cuban restaurant in Makati, Manila.

haha...I didn't season the hummus there. Maybe if I did, it would be more palatable. Jerk refers to a spice blend from Jamaica..they use it on pork and chicken. It's kind of similar to garam masala from India, just with different ratios of spices.

I used to go to college in Jamaica, Queens, and I got pretty hooked on West Indian cuisine, so Jerk Hummus sounded interesting. It totally wasn't though...

dude the jerk hummus... tasted like someone had put some cumin and tobasco into watery mayonaise and stirred it for about... 9 seconds. terrible. tasted not unlike mucous.

i really can't spell worth a crap tonight.
